In case you missed it – here’s a brief summary of the Sologix Business Philosophy for Growth as presented by founder Anton Pretorius in a recent webinar hosted by LaunchLab and the Stellenbosch Network.
In his presentation, Anton breaks down three factors crucial to the success of your business, namely: focus, fuel and fight.
Focus
- Focus your business – your business can’t be all things to all people. You must identify your market niche, spend time understanding your customer profile and make sure your value proposition is clear and services your customers’ needs.
- Focus your energy – spend your time on the key activities that allow your business to deliver its value proposition to the customer. Understand the key resources required to do this, then build systems that allow you to move from working in the business to working on the business.
- Focus your attention – plan your time according to your priorities, which should be the key activities required to help your business grow. Then, eliminate multitasking. The key is to be fully present wherever you’ve decided to spend your energy.
Fuel
- Invest in yourself – find and consume books, YouTube videos, courses and other materials that help you become a better leader and manager. Invest time and energy in self-management and develop your self-awareness, self-respect and self-love to the point where you can offer those things to others. Be reliable and do a good job so as to build trust and credibility in business relationships.
- Invest in your people – recruit and develop a talent pool of committed and engaged people with complementary skills who are empowered through a culture of productivity and continuous improvement to help your business grow.
- Invest in your processes – involve your team in helping you identify and document the business processes around your key activities. Then use these to develop standard operating procedures that you apply consistently. Make sure you regularly measure your outputs with KPIs that are geared toward continuous improvement.
Fight
- Passion – you have to believe in what you’re doing with all your heart and soul, and you must be able to fall back on your “why” when things get hard in the business, as they most certainly will.
- Patience – normalize delayed gratification if you want to succeed in business. You need patience to be able to put in the 10,000 growth hours that it will take to succeed. Sometimes it gets harder before it gets easier, and when things need to change, that takes time too.
- Perseverance – running a business is like running a marathon. You have to be prepared to keep at it for the long haul. But don’t persevere at what isn’t working. Adapt, if that’s what it takes. Above all, be disciplined enough to keep at it. Doing it right the first time is the only shortcut available.
